Opening Reception for the artist: Thursday October 19th from 7-9:30 PM
Our summer exhibition has ended and we are clearing the gallery for our fall show featuring new paintings on paper by Bay Area artist Patsy Krebs.
We began working with Patsy in 2011; she was one of four artists in our 2012 exhibition “California Contemporary“.
This will be her first one-person show with 15th Street Gallery, and after seeing the work she brought to us in late August, we’re asking ourselves “what took us so long?” Over the 7 years that we have handled her work, we have placed a good number of pieces with Boulder/Denver collectors who tell us years after they got a Krebs painting that it is still one of their favorite pieces. We hear this all the time. Her paintings are quiet and powerful, like a deep meditation. As one is drawn into her work thinking and trying to understand stop; one is freed to simply experience.
Michael Paglia, art critic for Denver’s Westword wrote of Krebs in July of 2015: “the artist’s austere ruminations on the horizon line… continue her exploration of post-minimalism, with the artist using physics to compose her pictures…” He goes on to say “classic minimalism is known for its hard edges, but Krebs employs blurry ones while retaining the style’s less-is-more aesthetic…”
There is a stark beauty to the paintings in this exhibition. The elegant simplicity draws you and keeps you there. 15th Street Gallery is quite honored to be hosting a show for an artist of Krebs’s caliber. Her work is included in such important American museums as San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Denver Art Museum and Berkeley Art Museum.
So, back to the upcoming exhibit. The work is beginning to come out of the framing workshop. We worked with Patsy on frame design; the frames will reflect the work: simple white that disappear, allowing the profound work to float off the wall.
We should be ready for an early installation of this show sometime around October 10th, but collectors who want a preview are welcome to stop by the gallery any time. It’s a labor of love for us to show Patsy’s work.
Otherwise, Patsy will be here in the gallery for her opening reception on October 19th.
We have asked her to bring copies of her new book, Painting.
We hope you can join us.
