15th Street Gallery and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art are pleased to team up to host a casual conversation with Master Printer Bud Shark and artist Barbara Shark of Shark’s Ink of Lyons and San Francisco artist Enrique Chagoya in Boulder, Colorado. Bud, Barbara and Enrique will discuss printmaking and the collaborative process between printmaker and artist used to produce work. Enrique Chagoya and Bud Shark have been working together making stunning lithographs since 1997. Chagoya uses familiar pop icons to create deceptively friendly points of entry for the discussion of complex, and sometimes controversial, issues. The founding curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, Cydney Payton, writes:
“Chagoya’s work is a confluence of cultural appropriations from western religion to pre-Columbian mythology. These historic references are combined into satirical and humorous juxtapositions with information from pop culture. The Shark and Chagoya collaboration illustrates again the inventive instincts and wisdom of Shark who can push artists into new ways of thinking about their work and it’s printed forms.”
Wow, Cyd, just reading your eloquent words makes us miss you and your visionary genius at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. We are thrilled to have the privilege and honor of sponsoring this intimate conversation between artist and printmaker.
Please join us at BMoCA on Thursday, August 21st at 6:30 pm.
